Rees-Sciama Effect in a CDM Universe

چکیده

The Rees-Sciama (RS) effect produces fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) through the time-dependent gravitational potential in the nonlinear stages of evolution. I investigate the RS effect on the CMB angular power spectrum Cl for several CDM models by combining the results of N-body simulations with second order perturbation theory. The amplitude of the RS fluctuations peaks at l ∼ 100− 300, where it gives ∆T/T ∼ 10 − 10 for a wide range of models. This is at least an order of magnitude below the COBE normalized primary contribution. RS fluctuations could be a dominant source of anisotropies only on subarcminute scales (l ≈ 5000) and are below the present day observational sensitivities on all angular scales. Effect of Void Network on CMB Anisotropy

We study the effect of a void network on the CMB anisotropy in the Einstein-de Sitter background using Thompson & Vishniac’s model. We consider comprehensively the Sacks-Wolfe effect, the Rees-Sciama effect and the gravitational lensing effect. Our analysis includes the model of primordial voids existing at recombination, which is realized in some inflationary models associated with a first-ord...

The mildly nonlinear imprint of structure on the CMB

I outline some nonperturbative relativistic effects that arise from gravitational corrections to the Boltzmann equations. These may be important for the study of CMB temperature anisotropies, particularly their interpretation. These terms are not included in the canonical treatment as they arise from the exact equations. Here a weakly nonlinear investigation of these effects is defined and inve...

On the Rees-Sciama effect: maps and statistics

Small maps of the Rees-Sciama (RS) effect are simulated by using an appropriate N-body code and a certain ray-tracing procedure. A method designed for the statistical analysis of cosmic microwave background (CMB) maps is applied to study the resulting simulations. These techniques, recently proposed –by our team– to consider lens deformations of the CMB, are adapted to deal with the RS effect. ...

Looking for Λ with the Rees-Sciama Effect

In models with a cosmological constant, a significant component of the large scale cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy is produced at rather low redshifts, z <∼ 1. In these models, the gravitational potential perturbations begin to evolve at late times. Photons passing through these time varying potentials aquire frequency shifts, an effect first noted by Rees and Sciama. Since the gra...

The Rees-Sciama effect and the primordial nucleosynthesis

It is known that, theoretically, the Rees-Sciama effect may cause arbitrarily large additional redshifts in the cosmic microwave background radiation due to transparent expanding voids having sizes comparable with the size of horizon. Therefore, again theoretically, eventual huge voids existing immediately after the recombination may essentially change the predictions of the theory of big bang ...
